| Dash for Cash! |
May 1, 2008 |
Dash For Cash!
At the next Nationals on 5/11/2008 at Club Moto, we will be holding a "Dash for Cash".
This is an expert only race and it will be the last race of the day, most likely 4 laps. It'll feature a $400.00 pot with a $10.00 buy-in.
It will also be a handicap race, with probably 3 starting positions. Guys like Dave Coupe starting from the start gate, further up the track will be mostly guys that hold blue plates and further up from there newer experts. It's an obvious effort to make it fair for everyone. Where you start on the track will be determined on race day, ie; the distance between the 3 "gates".
Who will be starting at the different gates to be determined as well.
There are no pre-entry requirements for this race.
As always safety is paramount so, there will be 3 referees to keep an eye on things. |
| Bike Transport to Taft |
April 14, 2008 |
This is a follow-up for the people that expressed an interest in transportation of bikes from Phoenix to the Taft Race. Please contact me by email

as soon as possible for your transportation requirements so that I can finalize the list. Space is limited. Now for some bad news, the cost of diesel fuel has gone up (a flippen lot) so the cost per mile has gone up also. The new per mile is $0.12 based on round trip mileage using Map Quest with a starting Zip Code in AZ of 85125 partial miles and dollars will be rolled-up to the next even mile or dollar. Example 123.5 miles will be 124 and dollar amounts are $123.50 is $124. That means round trip from Phoenix to Taft (1026 miles) would be $124.00. That would include one gear bag, gas can (max 5 gal) and small box of tools/support stuff (chain lube, spare small parts I hope you get the idea) per bike. If we have a full load there will be a 10% refund per bike. One ways are on a space available basis at $0.18 per mile and no refund for a full load.
I'm sure I have forgotten something and everything is subject to change. Please ask questions as soon as possible and I'll notify if there are changes as soon as possible. We are not a business we do this because we are going to the race and know that some of you need help getting your bikes to the races so you can race also. The bikes are NOT INSURED. They are in an enclosed trailer (unless notified otherwise) and made as safe as we can but there are people out there that make their living at taking other people's property. So if you have any reservations please take your bikes yourself. Also we know your bike is your pride and joy. We take every reasonable precaution to make sure your bike arrives with only the scratches it left with but things do move around and we check the bikes at every stop, So again if you have any reservations please take your bikes yourself.
Thank You
Gary Johnson

| Press Release |
January 23, 2008 |
The Arizona Vintage Dirt Racers Association (AVDRA) has announced that they have changed their name to the American Vintage Dirt Racers Association. Since 1990, the AVDRA’s goal has been to keep the motocross bikes of the past alive and running, and to keep the memories of the “Golden Age of Motocross” alive. Now in 2008, the AVDRA is expanding out of Arizona with a new Western States Vintage Moto Cross Series. The new AVDRA a non-profit organization dedicated to the same goals as the Arizona group, but expanding first to Southern & Northern California with plans to include the Rocky Mountain states as well. All scheduled AVDRA National races will be run as 2-day events, with GPMX (Post Vintage) bikes on Saturday and the VMX (Vintage) bikes racing on Sunday. AVDRA racing will also include classes such as Kids Support class on VMX days, and Modern Support class on GPMX days. For 2008, they have established a Temporary Membership license of $10 for on weekend, and a reduced post-entry penalty fee of $10 per class. Year-long membership is $30 and includes a Teeshirt, membership card and monthly email newsletter. AVDRA is the first Vintage club to offer secure online membership & race entry.
AVDRA President Dave Boydstun was formerly the National Off-Road Director of AHRMA (American Historical Racing Motorcycle Association). Dave traveled the complete AHRMA National Off-road series for many years as a competitor, in addition to three years working for AHRMA setting up and running the Off-Road National Series.
The 2008 AVDRA season kicks off on February 8,9 & 10th at Speedworld MX Park in Surprise AZ. In addition to the racing on one of the most vintage-friendly tracks in the US, there will be two special honorees: Carlos Serrano, the “World’s Fastest Mexican”, and 96 year-old Spike Warden, the “World’s Oldest Motocrosser.”
After the opening round at Speedworld, the AVDRA Western States Vintage MX Series will be going to Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California for an 8-race championship series. For more information, visit www.avdra.com. |

| Well Here Comes 2008 |
January 2008 |
| Big news for A.V.D.R.A…. its now official, our traditional National Vintage Weekend held in February each year has a new twist… The 12th annual “Duel In The Desert” held at Speedworld in Whitman, AZ will now become American Vintage Dirt Racers Association (A.V.D.R.A.) sanctioned. We will no longer be a part of AHRMA. This race will mark the beginning of a whole new series called the “Western States Vintage Moto Cross Series”. This series will be held in several states, some to include Arizona, California, Nevada and Colorado with more being added later. All events will be two-day events, one with Vintage and Kids, and another with GP and Modern bikes. Some of the events will include Cross Country. All racers will be welcome - from our kids to our friends with modern bikes. We will have something for everyone. Please keep a check on our website (www.avdra.com) for updates. |
| AVDRA Moto Changes |
December 2007 |
Now that our 2006/2007 series is completed, we are looking to make a couple of changes to our race program. First I would like to thank everyone for commenting and making suggestions. However, I would like to make a couple of observations.
1. With all the modern bikes present, our program is losing it's beloved family atmosphere. Yep, I could not agree more, and you will have my promise that it will keep our friendly, laid back, environment. And that the AVDRA program that you all know and love will remain. Like you, I need the "Vintage" feel of things.
2. We recognize that many of us want to ride a modern bike and have family members that want to ride them as well. With this in mind, we will continue to have a limited amount of modern classes, but will require that folks entering these classes be an AVDRA member, ride a vintage or GP bike that day, or have a family member signed up in a vintage or GP class.
3. Your VMX Committee is looking at what other regions are doing with modern support and developing classes that make sense, without compromising our Vintage and GP program. In short, we recognize the need for limited support classes without dragging the day out and littering the program.
4. The tracks are getting tougher, is this to cater to the modern bikes?
5. No points will be kept for any modern support classes. Trophies will be given out at each event, but there will be NO championship year end awards.
Before our next event, we will have a list of support classes available. So please check the site for information. Thanks to all who are supporting the growing AVDRA VMX Series, and on behalf of the VMX Committee, we appreciate your comments.
Sincerely,
Dave Boydstun |
