Interview with Jerry Morrison - By Bret Hjerpe Nov 24, 2008
AVDRA ~ Arizona | District #1 - InterviewsBret: Where are you from originally?
Jerry: Mostly Phoenix, we moved here when I was 11 my family was a navy family.
Bret: How old were you when you started racing?
Jerry: About 18, a friend of mine taught me how to ride in prescott, I borrowed his mom’s KE 100 and immediately crashed and tore my chin open and he was really pissed that I scratched his mom’s bike.
Bret: I bet he was upset. So when did you first start racing?
Jerry: I started in the late 70"s on an RM 125 and a YZ 125, in the beginner class at Beeline and Canyon.
Bret: Did you ever race at ADR or Metro Cycle Park?
Jerry: I went to ADR with a friend of mine who rode expert and the I got into ADRA, which was the desert racing. I was a beginner and novice.
Bret: So how did you get with the vintage group and how long have you been in the club?
Jerry: Since the late 90’s, was doing desert racing with Whiplash and ADRA and was getting bored with it. I met a guy who told me about the club, I worked with the guy and he sold me a 12h elsinore for to much money so I fixed it up and started racing it, then I was hooked and have been racing with the club ever since.
Bret: Well I know your doing good because you got rider of the month the last month of last season. I was real proud of you and they had your picture on the web page. So how do you think you will do this year, are you going to win your class.
Jerry: Well I’m going to build a 77 YZ 125 because it was one of the first bikes I ever raced and rode. Ihavn’t finished it for the 1st race of the season but I hope to have it ready by the 2nd race. I also have a 250 ellsinore for the vintage class I want to concentrate on those two classes as well as doing one or to post vintage classes.
Bret: That’s great it should be good season for you, is they’re anyone out there you want to give a special thanks to?
Jerry: Everybody, this is a great club, I recently broke my collarbone at the national in Utah and people were falling over each other trying to help me out, packing my gear taking me to the hospital and Bill (Ramsey) gave me a ride all the way back to phoenix, the good thing about our club, its not like modern bike racers if you injure yourself the competetion is happy about it and that doesn’t happen in our club.
Bret: Thanks again Jerry for the interview,Goodluck this season and I will see you at the next race.
